Well hello there!

Oddly, this is my first Halloween post of the season! Halloween is one of my favorite holidays I can't believe I let a few Halloween themed blog posts slip away from me. I love watching scary movies, just not the nightmares. I like the idea of haunteds house, but I don't like when people scare me. I'm a big ol' scaredy cat, so, warning to new acquaintances: do NOT got with me to a haunted house. EVER! I'm horrible.

Alright, so since that's out of the way let's get to why you're really here- MINECRAFT!

My son's first character choice for Halloween was Minecraft Steve. We didn't find any costumes within our budget, so through a quick Google search my husband found this tutorial showing how to create one. My youngest son liked playing with brother's so much that I ended up making him one and a tutorial to go along with it. :-)

The file available to download on the site mentioned above is sized 17" x 48" so I edited it to be printed in 4- 11" x 17" sheets (downloadable files below) at your local print shop. I went to my local UPS Store to purchase the 2 boxes and the prints and paid $7 and change.

*Note: If you don't already have majority of the items listed below, as I did, then you may be better off buying the pre-made box from Amazon here (not an aff. link) and receive free 2-day shipping as a Prime member or with a $25+ purchase. About time you add up the costs of everything on the list to DIY, you'll be paying the same price or more. Buuut, since this may be last minute for you, this is definitely your best bet to ensure it's ready in time for Halloween!

**I highly suggest you complete this project outdoors if you plan to use spray adhesive.

Let's begin, shall we?

Box and print prep:
  1. Assemble the box and tape the top of the box closed using the packing tape.
  2. Cut off the bottom fold flap that will be the front of the face.
  3. Fold the other three fold flaps inside the box.
  4. Remove the white edges from the 11" sides of the prints using your scissors and/or paper trimmer.
*Cut off all edges of the top of the hair. I left the 17" top and bottom edges on all pages EXCEPT the top of the hair.

The video below shows the rest of this tutorial. Enjoy! :-)

  1. Used your tutorial for my son's costume this year -- he is in love with it! We modified the eyes so they'd be more Herobrine than Steve :) Thanks!

  2. How did you but the hat in the box? Did you glue it to the top?
