New Year, New Ways, New Video!
Happy New Year Everyone!
I feel so confident about this year! I took a month long break from blogging in order to gather my thoughts, clear my mind, and make way for new ideas!
At the end of last year, I began a new journey of vlogging and it has been such a joy. I gained over 400 followers in 2 months and joined a good community of women who are as motivated as I am.
The holidays were SUPER busy. I got really overwhelmed and anxious which led me to take a much needed two-week break from vlogging as well to focus on my family and relax. During that time my husband was on break from work and completely transformed our stairs. I'll share the update in a YouTube vlog this week along with some other footage, so stay tuned :-)
As suggested by a Facebook friend, I watched a Netflix documentary titled Minimalism and it instantly struck a cord with me. For years, my husband has been telling me I have too much stuff and I needed to purge. He believed that me adding to and trying to maintain all my stuff was keeping me stressed out, unmotivated, and overwhelmed far too often.
I had something like an awakening yesterday and thought, "enough is enough!" Although it sucks to admit, my husband is right. I have plastic storage totes in our basement full of stuff I haven't used in a year or longer and I more than likely won't use any of it anytime soon. I feel as if my home always seems cluttered, no matter how much I clean and organize.
I don't plan to completely minimize everything- I'm keeping all my clothes and shoes!- however, I'm definitely cutting back in most areas and limiting my spending on the accumulation of more unnecessary stuff. I won't buy something just because it's pretty or on clearance. I have more than enough pretty stuff. It's going to be tough! But, #GOALS.
I'm actually saving up for a brand new vlogging camera, so I'm hoping that as long as I keep that in mind, I won't be swayed by inexpensive pretty things. I also need to stay out of Michael's, Target, Hobby Lobby, Kirkland's, Old Time Pottery, Ross, TJ Max, Home Goods... ah heck.
I can do this. 😁
Today, I'm beginning with purging my basement. Beneath our new staircase my husband created a storage area where we'll add shelving soon. I'm anxious because I know it'll take a lot of time and work, but I'm also motivated and excited because it'll be such a big step in the right direction towards freedom from unnecessary stress caused by my connection to material things.
Ever since I was 12 I have depended on a planner to remember things and keep track of what needs to be completed. This year is no different. In the video below, I show my brand new planner and briefly explain how I plan to use it to help me reach my goals and reflect each month.
Thanks for reading! May you have a love-focused and joy-filled 2017!
