This summer I'm teaming up with an awesome group of ladies to bring our readers 7 weeks of 14 themed summer activities to keep children's minds sharp and bodies moving! Overall, we want them to have fun!

So far, the ladies have done a great job covering the following themes: Self-loveocean, money management, gardening/going green, black history, and music. This week, in perfect timing for the first day of summer, I will be covering water fun and Theresa of The Importance of Being Reese will share resources for STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math).

Let's begin!

READING LIST

I suggest a family visit to your local public library to pick up some good books surrounding the theme. {Note: A couple weeks in advance, search the library catalog online to find available books relating to the theme. Double check the availability to ensure that the books aren't checked out. If they are, place them on hold and your library will notify you when it's time to pick them up after they become available.}

Books I recommend for this theme are:

WATER FUN ACTIVITIES

1. Educational activities.

This book shares easy and fun water-based science activities using safe objects found in the home to help children understand scientific concepts such as buoyancy, capacity, and volume.

In addition to the activities featured in the book listed above, here are outdoor water activities to last all summer long!

2. Slip and slide (purchase or create one using trash bags).

You can find the slip and slide we have HERE. It's very affordable and my kids love it!

3. Water table.

My son and nephew had a blast with those things!

5. Water Balloons.

6. Save money on water activities by using things you already have around the house and yard.

8. Visit a local pool, water park, or spray park!

BEVERAGES AND SNACKS

To keep everyone hydrated, fruit infused water is a very tasty option! Freezing fruit inside of ice ice would be tasty as well.

To make fruit infused water peel and slice fruits of your choice and add them to one or 1/2 gallon of water and let it sit in the fridge overnight before drinking. Here are a few delicious combinations I found via All Recipes:
  • Watermelon, honeydew, and mint
  • Lemon, raspberry, and rosemary
  • Cucumber, lime, strawberry, and mint
There are plenty more combinations all over the web and on Pinterest.

As for a snack, well, this one is quite obvious, right? :-)

Snow cones/slushies/shaved ice are the perfect summer snack/beverage! Our favorite spot to go for snow cones or shaved ice is Tropical Sno.

If you're interested in making your own snow cones at home, there are many snow cone machines available to purchase online and at your local stores. We were gifted our Jelly Belly Snow Cone Machine last year for Christmas. The kids are really looking forward to using it!

That concludes my theme for the week! I hope you enjoyed reading this and have as much fun as I did participating in each activity with my family :-).

In the adorable image below you'll find the different themes for each week. Be sure to follow the links within each individual post to find more ideas to assist your family in having an awesome summer!

Thanks for stopping by!

Don't forget to pin the image below to your summer activity board! :-)
