My Life Lately :-)

Family time at an air show.

Hi ladies!

I have been so busy and over whelmed lately that I really haven't had much time to blog. I'll give a quick rundown of what's been going on in my neck of the woods and share a few Instagram photos along the way...

My two oldest kids started 3rd and 1st grade and oh my goodness! I'm so proud of them! They have great teachers, we love the principal. They're doing awesome with their school work and reading. I'm very pleased. I take them to school and pick them up every single day because although we're in the right district, they're not in the designated elementary school for our home address, for various reasons. I also pick up my nephew (pictured above) from his school 15 minutes away twice a week. My evenings are dedicated to *trying really hard* to maintain order in our home; helping the kids with homework and reading, preparing them for the following day, preparing dinner, making sure they clean up their messes, etc. This week, I added alarms on my phone and my daughter's iPod (that I didn't buy) that go off every 15-30 minutes after 5 p.m. to help us stay on track, making sure everything gets done (homework and reading, start dinner, make your lunch for tomorrow, 20 minutes cleaning bedrooms, kids shower, kids clothes for tomorrow, brush teeth, get water, bedtime).

And this year makes 5 years of me being a stay-at-home-mom! And I still love it. Like my daughter, my youngest son's birthday is in September so he won't be able to start Kindergarten until 2017. When we drop the kids off at school we usually go home and do some learning activities. He's learning to recognize letters and numbers. We practice making shapes and color for a little while. We either go for a walk (me) and ride (him) through our neighborhood or I take him to the park where he likes to ride his bike on the trail before playing. After that we may run a few errands and have lunch at his favorite spot, Chick-Fil-A, once or twice a week. He's a busy body and can be very rambunctious. If my attention isn't on him, he interrupts whatever I'm doing {"Mommy! Watch me jump off the couch!"} or finds something to sneak into {like snacks in the pantry}. I'm able to write this blog post because he's watching Netflix, which my husband and I like to limit. When he naps, I clean and read whatever chapters my instructor assigns for the week or work on assignments.

Oh! About that...

At his favorite park. He loves playing in the sandbox and bike riding  the trail while I ride our Razor scooter.

Mid-July I made a last minute decision to go back to college to become an educator. I just figured, why wait? Start now. Like the college commercials say. Enrollment went well. I started school the same day as my kids. I'm currently knocking out a few classes that I'm able to take online at a local community college because it's more convenient for me at this point. I'm currently working on an essay, due Sunday, that has to be at least 5 pages in length and I can't stand having to add MLA citation! BUT! I'm doing whatever is required for me to ace the class. I'm determined to graduate with at least a 3.5 GPA. After this semester I'll need 21 credit hours to receive my Associate's in Teaching and move on to my Bachelor's. I already had 26 credit hours from the same school I'm currently attending. Plus, I have an Associate's in Occupational studies for X-Ray/Med Tech and I'm so grateful some of those credits transferred over! Next school year I plan to attend classes on campus while my youngest son is in preschool part-time. I may try to get a part-time job at a preschool, and have him attend there. I have found some really good local pre-school's that offers college tuition reimbursement for employees. I don't know, we'll see.

It has been difficult, adjusting to the student-parent life. I had about 5 loads of clean laundry piled on my couch for a whole week. I have been going 2  or 3 days in a row without washing dishes. There were toys and shoes everywhere (an ongoing issue). My house was a hot freakin' mess. I was forced (haha!) to start cleaning last week because I didn't want to wait to do everything at the last minute when my kids birthday party rolls around {next weekend}. As it turns out, that was a good idea because my husband forgot to tell that his friends were coming over this past Saturday. We didn't have to do much before they came. The house now, it's "ah-ight". Some quick tidying and a load in the dishwasher are due. I have 1 basket of clean laundry that needs to be folded and put away. The bedrooms... No comment :-) 20 minutes in each room will have them sparkling clean.

I need to take a Facebook hiatus. It's very distracting. I'm in a bunch of groups with topics that peak my interest and keep me engaged while my kids are asleep at night, when I should be working on assignments, but nope. I stay up until 1 and 2 a.m.working on assignments.

This week, I have been so off track with cooking dinner. I cooked twice this week... I need to go to the grocery store.

I have made a lifestyle change I'm not quite ready to discuss here yet. I've been reading and learning a lot more regarding it. I'm torn. Confused. Sensitive about it. Pray for me y'all! :-) {9/5 Update: it's not a marital issue as someone assumed!}

I haven't had time to work on any DIY projects, although I have been redecorating with what I already have and bought a couple new items. I'll most definitely try to post about that within next week or so.

I'm slowly, but surely, getting things in order! Some good thing come with a few struggles and sacrifices and "Motherhood is so easy!" said no one. Ever. Unless they're delusional or was joking. Motherhood is an awesome experience, very rewarding, and something to be proud of, most definitely, but easy? Nah.

Alrighty then, my baby boy is getting restless so, so long! Farewell! Auf Wiedersehen! Goodbye! :-)

Have a great weekend ladies! :-)

  1. Congrats on going back to school. I started and finished my MBA while working full time and being pregnant and later with a newborn. I think the longer and harder the process the more appreciative you are when you finish!

    1. Thank you! Goodness! You must be Superwoman! :-) That's awesome. I'll most definitely be grateful when I'm done. I might break down crying while walking the stage.

  2. Congrats on going back to college! I am currently working on my MBA, so I can totally relate to your struggle with balancing everything. I will be returning to work tomorrow so I will be balancing school, work, a 2 month old baby, and keeping my home together! Pray for me! We've got this!

    1. Thank you Keia! That's awesome! I wish I would have recognized the importance of obtaining my Bachelor's degree when times were much more simple (pre-family) so I could say I'm working on my MBA at this point in time :-) You're setting a great example!
